This page explains, in plain English, what happens to your information if you join the Trail Notes or visit this site.
Who I am
I'm James Wood, a trail runner and writer based in Prague, Czech Republic. I run T-RUN at truntrails.com, and I'm responsible for the information described on this page. You can reach me at [email protected].
What I collect
If you join the Trail Notes, I collect your email address, and a record of when and where you signed up. I don't ask for your name. The email service I use may also record technical details of the sign-up, such as your IP address.
If you only visit the site, I don't collect personal information myself. The services the site runs on may, and I explain them under "Cookies and embedded content" below.
Why I use it, and on what basis
I use your email address to send you the Trail Notes: occasional emails with routes, ideas and lessons from the trail, and news of my book, The Way of the Trail Runner. I do this only because you asked me to. Your consent is the legal basis, and you confirm it by clicking the link in the confirmation email after you sign up.
T-RUN remembers which trail notes you’ve finished, only in your own browser, to suggest what to read next. Nothing is sent to us or anyone else.
I won't sell your email address or share it with anyone else.
Who handles it
Your email address is stored and sent by Kit (kit.com), the email service I use. Kit handles it on my behalf. Kit is a US company, so your information may be processed outside the EU. Kit explains how it protects information in its own privacy policy, which you can find on its website.
How long I keep it
I keep your email address until you unsubscribe. Every email I send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. When you use it, you're removed from the list, and Kit may keep a minimal record that you opted out, so that I don't email you again by mistake.
Your rights
Under EU data protection law you can ask me what information I hold about you, ask me to correct or delete it, withdraw your consent at any time, object to how I use it, and ask for a copy of it. To do any of these, email me at the address above.
If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, you can complain to the Czech data protection authority, the Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů (uoou.gov.cz), or to the authority in your own country.
Cookies and embedded content
This site is hosted on Blogger, which is run by Google. Google may use cookies and collect technical information about visitors, for example to run the site and its statistics. Some pages embed content from other services, such as YouTube videos and Strava route maps, and these companies may set their own cookies when you play or interact with them. Links to Amazon, Instagram and other sites take you to places with their own policies. I don't control any of these.
Changes
If I change this page, I'll update the date at the top.
